Like my father before me, I have on more than one occasion been physically ejected from the corporate offices of the Chicago Cubs baseball club.
The answer is always pizza.

Throw some cheese curds on there and we’re all set.

I think signing Diaz or Suarez would’ve made it easy to bump Hoffman to an eighth-inning role. But Fairbanks isn’t that kind of dominant closer, nor would Keller be. I also think a team like this needs a set closer, rather than a job share. But who knows? Jays are not messing around this off-season.

Also, you don’t sign a guy like that and then bring back Bo Bichette to play shortstop. Second base, quite possibly.

56.6 lifetime groundball percentage. He is going to love that Toronto infield.

He was Detroit’s 29th-ranked prospect per FanGraphs this past spring, if that helps set your expectations. He’s also 27.

They're not perfect, they make mistakes (Santander, hoo boy) and they can't tick every box. But it's a great feeling that the team you root for (and that almost won the WS) has also earned a lot of respect within the game. That's all down to Shapiro, and he deserves every day of this contract. //

So many MLB clubs are run like fiefdoms, and some (Angels, Pirates, absolutely the Rpckies) are utter shambles. But the best-run franchises attract the best off-field talent, the people who expect excellence from themselves and their colleagues, and that's what the Blue Jays have become.

I remember when AA was about to make one of his big 2015 trades (Tulo?), and apparently he phoned Beeston at like 11 pm to let him know/get his approval, even though Beeston, at his age, wasn't normally to be disturbed after 10 pm. And I can't imagine anything like that situation happening now.

1. Their internal valuations, which they tend to follow strictly, said he wouldn’t be worth it.

2. They’re saving money for a big bat (Bo/Kyle).

3. They’re don’t want to completely wipe out their draft picks and int’l budget by signing too many FAs with QOs.

Probably some combination.

He's been a starter in the past, but obviously, coming off multiple surgeries, he'd join the bullpen if he makes the club out of ST. Very little pro experience, but he pitched in the SEC and he's 25, so he's no Elvis Luciano. In short relief, his FB could bump up into the high 90s. Intriguing pick.

Back surgery and then TJ surgery cost him most of the last couple of years. He's 25, but hasn't pitched above Single-A. Former fourth-round draft pick in 2022 out of U Missouri.

"Miles remains an intriguing arm who should still have a chance to stick as a starter given his deep repertoire. He can touch the upper 90s with his sinker and four-seam fastball and also mixes in a curveball, changeup and cutter, which he developed after he was drafted." www.mlb.com/news/giants-...
Back from multiple surgeries, Miles makes AFL debut
