On 1 November 2025, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) announced that the state of Kerala is "extreme poverty- free" - one year ahead of schedule. It is the only state to achieve this milestone in a country with the largest population living in extreme poverty in the world. Announced in 2021, the project began with an exhaustive door-to-door survey led by local self- governments and community organisations like Kudumbashree, a women's cooperative network with over four million members They identified 64,006 households, comprising roughly 103,000 individuals, who continued to live in conditions of "extreme deprivation." For each, local assemblies drafted a micro- plan detailing the specific interventions required - housing, healthcare, employment, land titles, pensions, or access to social protections. Unlike top-down welfare schemes, these were participatory blueprints that took shape in the wards and panchayats, ensuring no one was left out of the process that determined their own future

finally did this the other night and pre-soaking chia seeds so they get all gelatinous really helped the texture. last batch was crumbly but this one is soft without falling apart.

Foreign Policy This body was given to me in August and colonized by October. They say "you can't make an omelet without losing some blood." Behind glass, I am named Gift from God, middle name No Good Options. This body is a city at war. Covered in barbed wire and dead bees, neighborhoods scalpelled apart into subdivisions and streets I don't recognize. I learn to dress wounds as the wounds align with the seasons. I am digging for bones and filling the foxholes with soil. I will sleep in something growing if it kills me! This arm is mine and it is waking up! I am a stranger with a gun and I am far outnumbered.

Because I'm in Stockings A boy is asking me to punch him, to judge cheek and jaw bone. I hear he's almost a father, a train jumper, a crayon short. He takes it on the chin, always telling me my hair smells like the house he grew up in: smoke souring bayberries under ash collapsing rafters. In sheets, with rainy shoulders he says he shot a man nearly dead while buttoning his pants, which makes me want him to unbutton his pants. Or I will lie to me, he's the perfect stranger to finish off the family portrait, his burning edges matching opposite mine. Not falling, I'm pumping my legs in meter, and catch him filling our shoes with gravel while he's looking up my skirt. On a swing, I forget his name for the last time. Nature Poem Some days, without notice I think the data will save us. We talk about moving parts as if we aren't among them. There are more numbers in a strand of spider's web than in the world's biggest spreadsheet. You catalog the world's deepest rivers as if we aren't among them. The physics engine tries to chart the falling feather on a still February morning and fails, but it's getting closer. Always remember, the earth is solid enough to touch and alive enough to bury.

there was a time in my life when friends bought me flasks as gifts and that time was extremely 2010. that midcentury women's magazine illustration with irreverent text collaged over it was everywhere for like 4 years, I love it
