Rumi is standing on her toes, reaching out for a dumpling that Mira is holding above her head. She can see the years of friendship — of knowing each other — in the way their bodies move around each other, in every look they share, in every push and pull of the air around them. It's beautiful, hypnotic. But it's also fragile, something that could so easily break — that she could so easily break with how much she wants them. With how much she wants to be pulled into their orbit and wrap that thread they share around herself too. She raises her camera back up, eye on the viewfinder and follows the two of them as they move to another stall — Mira making a gesture with one hand that has Rumi throwing her head back in laugher. Thumbs hovering over the screen, itching to reply, but the lingering doubt echoes louder than she'd like. Can she do this again and walk out unscathed? Mira's heart aches with memories that haunt the space between her ribs. It's an invitation, open and honest. One that makes that ache and want surge through her body unrestrained. Will she be able to pick up the pieces if this shatters? Is she okay with wanting just this and nothing more? "I need you to step away." Her voice is even, but not cold. It's a warning, and she hopes Mira will treat it as such.

Rumi had said as much back then too, that she felt it in her chest, in the way her body reacted to Zoey's presence. Zoey hadn't been so sure, vision veiled by hurt, by the revolving door of people that never stayed, never cared. Rumi knows Zoey had simply been waiting, waiting for Rumi to leave, waiting for the other shoe to drop. Waiting for their so called connection to snap at the first sign of her being too much or not enough. For talking too much, feeling too loudly. For not meeting expectations, for not believing in herself to the point of self-sabotage. For allowing the fractured glass she stood on to break and not know how to hold on. For not knowing how to cry out when she was free-falling into depths she was desperate to lose herself in. To erase the hurt. To stop the pain. To no longer be too much or not enough, and instead cease to be altogether.
