Another very fine piece of science from the PhD thesis of Dr Dennis Milesevic is available in press.

Here, we show the wavelength dependent photodissociation dynamics of a model peptide radical cation.

Ultraviolet Photodissociation of the N,N-Dimethylformamide Cation
N,N-Dimethylformamide (DMF) provides a useful small-molecule model for studying features of the peptide bond that forms the backbone of proteins. We report results from a comprehensive multimass veloc...

Interviewer: Gap you explain this gap in your CV?

Me: Yes, I am symmetric with respect to exchange and so only have even-J rotational levels.

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume?

Gravitational-wave astronomer: It depends on the maximum neutron star mass and details of the supernova mechanism ... or it could just be a selection effect

If you actually, genuinely want to house the #homeless... - just give them money.
#BasicIncome in every study done ends up cheaper than the endless interventions required when people live on the street: all of the police, courts, ambulance and hospital...

Leaned on the vent valve of a full speed turbo and heard the most ungodly scream that I will never forget. Luckily I closed it fast enough to avoid a crash landing and witness the full extent of the wrath of conservation of angular momentum

Scientist friends, as we are building community here, I have a question to get to know you:

What is a mistake that you made in the lab?
November 14, 2024 at 2:02 PM
Not sure if this counts: in HS, we were titrating KMnO4 and I spilled a bunch all over my lap. My gf says “if we put H2SO4 on that it will get rid of the stain”. I’m like “genius!” And allow her to dropper 6M acid on my crotch. Colour vanishes, and by lunch time so had most of the front of my jeans.
Hey so who’s new here on Chemsky? Say hi! And tell me your opinion on why we don’t all know more about the best way to get stains out of clothes?

I had a moment during a workshop class this week where I began to explain something before realising that it would mean that I also had to explain Coriolis coupling, so I decided to just trail off and pretend it didn’t happen.
