Whole-plasmid sequencing is unsettlingly revealing 😬 look at all these mismatches in the mini-white gene of the pUAST plasmid in my 'reference' sequence.

Speaking of enjoying the little things. Genesee Scientific always cheers me up with the candies they toss in with the orders. Also, Fine Science Tools are using a different plastic for their free rulers, hopefully they don't go brittle like the old ones.

My perennial birthday request is mocha cake. This year, my ten-year-old baked me my birthday mocha cake, icing and all. Coffee and mocha cake (made with real espresso) is likely too much caffeine, but you gotta enjoy the little thing + boosting my words-per-minute.

I was starting to wonder if Genesee Scientific stopped throwing in snacks in the orders, when this arrived today ☺️

It's been a hectic start to my new position--with setting up a lab, then launching into teaching a brand-new undergrad research intensive course (in my lab), while trying to get experiments up and running. This is all I have been able to unpack.
