2003 on the high level bridge with a camera not known for its slow shutter speeds.

Copying from an aperture library that fit on an 8Gb DVD… surprising, but at the time in 2005 cameras were making photos that were just under a megabyte.

This is from the High Level bridge in Edmonton in October, 2005.

Edmonton has (had?) much better graffiti than Calgary.

Zonkers! We got snow! Golly!

I spent a few hours adding photos to a massive library on the Mac. This will include ALL images I took, including raw files from cameras. I want to see EVERYTHING.

I will need to move it to the external drive though.

I was talking to someone about the Alberta separatists, who are prone to say “if you want to stay in Canada, then move”

Their fight isn’t about equality and it never was

It’s about them being at the top of the food chain in the “new Alberta”

They could move to the US, of course, but as immigrants

Some apartment drama has been resolved.

Last week a sink in another apartment started leaking… a LOT … we couldn’t get ahold of the manager, but managed to get to the basement to turn the water off. (We took the hinges off the door)

I sent text messages, email and voicemail.

I saw this sweet little radio record player yesterday. Their price was a bit high but I liked the aesthetic for future projects. It would be an interesting format to share narratives… a storytelling device.

I’m not sure how many saw the odd chinook arch last night. It felt like looking out of a very wide tunnel. The sky over Calgary was those dark clouds of a deeeeep blue while you could see the sunlit sky.

Maybe it will snow today. Not too much, just two or three feet…

I stumbled on two life remnants today, random leftover photographs in albums at a thrift store.

This is an inspiration for an idea outside of my research, the album archive for Alberta, dedicated to collecting, digitizing and storing family memories when no current member wants to be responsible.

I see Ai as another technological shift, similar to others like lithography, photography, halftone printing, 4-colour press, photocopiers, colour copiers and printers, and scanners, which have replaced almost all forms of optical-mirror-drum-developer systems.
February 13, 2026 at 12:24 PM
I’ve noticed the Ai summaries in Google tend to go deeper when you ask for definitions than Google alone did. The answers are enlightening and, importantly, far more accurate than the older “here are what sites say” responses.

Now it gets its answers from actual documents, now SEO
