Good. It is a fight worth picking & will briefly distract them from fighting with each other.
British PM Keir Starmer has confirmed his government will cap ground rents at £250 a year. The move will please his backbenchers.

But it sets up Labour for a gunfight with professional landlords and investors.

The ongoing building safety/remediation crisis, which has ruined the lives of millions, continues to be one of the great political scandals of our time. It remains astonishing how many young people and families continue to be left in limbo and face crippling costs.

I need help with family who are beginning to be taken in by extreme right content, conspiracies and so on they're fed on Facebook etc. Now they're being pulled in by GB News.

I need antidotes that explain how these channels work, but I'm struggling to find accessible content from trusted sources.

@jamesrball.com James, are there any decent explainer pieces out there on GB News - the background, the agenda, the conspiracy theory promoting etc. Basically anything I can use to educate friends and family who I'm concerned are falling into its orbit 😩

Excellent letter by @alistrathern.bsky.social calling for an end to estate charge rip offs.

80% of newbuild estates can go unadopted by local councils, making them ripe for exploitation. Staggering.

Unadopted estates will be a huge problem in the next decade. This is a deliberate money spinner by developers + managing agents to inflict uncapped leasehold-style charges on freehold houses. The country needs new homes but all we're building is more mortgage traps and scams. It must stop.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social People get scammed online because they don't expect the likes of Facebook, paid Google search results etc (brands they trust) to be hosting fraudulent ads. Platforms need to stop taking easy cash and actually vet their advertisers, but they won't until they're forced.
