Also note that US Ambassador to Japan George Glass who was teasing China two weeks ago about Taiwan has suddenly gone very quiet.

It sounds like you are agreeing with me: the US decision not to contradict China’s controversial take of US position on Taiwan suggests that Trump was trying to curry favor with Beijing and could well have tried to restrain Takaichi or at the very least refused to offer any support.

There is another problem: The US has refused to back up Takaichi. Indeed, it has not refuted Xi’s claim that Trump expressed understanding of China on Taiwan. This and the timing of events makes WSJ story plausible although perhaps it was exaggerated. Also Lingling is a good and brave reporter.

I am not saying Putin “has all the cards” but there is also danger in downplaying Ukraine’s plight.

This is a frustrating article because it does not explain what the poison pills are. The only explanation is a link to an FT article which is paywalled. Editor please.

Surely the west kept its promise to Poland. It failed Czechia and Spain.

Did you see The Australian verbal led your comments so you were quoted saying it was all guess work. Why do you bother talking to them?

I find it odd because similar views have appeared in the FT and the Economist which presumably the Japanese business media is familiar with.

I agree that the debate in Japan over the lack of a 論文 is naive and this is much better than no deal. But for some reason the US has interpreted the napkin deal less favourably for Japan than a virtually identical deal for the EU especially in cars.
