Biker and techie. Very old.
Lives in Wales, in a crumbling pile of rocks in the vague shape of a house.
Oh, hey, happy birthday!

Because the American system is set up to vest ultimate power in the President. Any supposed checks and balances are just a fig-leaf for the idolatry that has been built into the system.
As soon as someone figured that out, and manoeuvred themselves into the top job, America was doomed.

The surprise for me has been the huge numbers of willing cannon-fodder for Trump. What are they thinking?

(Also, well done! Keep on keepin' on.)

I make that 47% support for right-wing and far-right-wing parties. What the fuck is wrong with people?

My standard reaction whenever someone here in the UK says that Ukraine should let Russia keep some territory is to imagine that the French had occupied Kent, Sussex, and the southern bits of London, and were eying up Essex across the Thames. Would they fight, or just let France keep the territory?

I had one trying it on here on Bluesky yesterday. I was bored, so I strung "her" along for a while by playing dumb-but-happy (my favourite role), until the account got deleted towards the end of the afternoon.

That's a terribly sad case, but at least the perpetrator got caught.

I'm willing to bet that half of MAGA admire him for it.

They're probably making plans right now to tear those memorials down and replace them with giant gold-plated statues of Trump.
December 19, 2025 at 7:43 PM
Ah, could be.

Now that, I did not know. I figured it was onamatopaeic, in as much as I thought about it at all.

Was it the Mynah bird?

Excellent summary.
I blame the Trimphone.

I'm sure I recall transparent-case telephones in the '80s, probably mid-'80s as the memories are linked to the just-post-school era.
I couldn't give you any brand names, though. Phones didn't have names back then, they were just phones :-)

(I should add, though, that I utterly disagree with you on the "workout" thing. It's important that the kids are out in the open, travelling freely. They don't have to be training for the Giro.)

Oh, absolutely. I'm all in favour of a small electric motor. I think the 250W UK limit is about right for assist.
December 19, 2025 at 3:15 PM
Ah, OK. Wasn't aware of that as a technique.

It's a genuine win/win, because the shade of the panels would keep cars cooler, and reduce the fuel used by aircon to bring them down to a comfortable temperature.

Social outings should be riding at the pace of the slowest rider. It's not difficult.
December 19, 2025 at 11:47 AM
Well, that's a surprise!

I think y'all need to request teams of international observers to oversee the next few elections.

Christianity (as with all other organised religions) was created as a means of political control and acquisition of wealth and power.
What we see in the USA is Christianity working exactly as designed.

Are we open to tarring and feathering?

This chart makes interesting reading:

You(+) were supposed to vote in leaders who espouse universal healthcare free at the point of delivery. But you didn't, so here we are.

(+) The country, not you personally. Although if you do have that power, please make it so.

That sounds more like cocaine, or maybe speed. The sniffing is important.
