Yesterday was two year since my heart attack! What better way to celebrate than having whisky with 36,000 year old ice wedge ice from Eureka Creek, Yukon with colleagues from the Pacific Geoscience Centre! From left to right, Taimi, Randy, Tark, me. Picture of the slightly dirty ice.

Oh and there are some ships as well! If you are into that.

Wildlife encounters on my walk today at the Pacific Geoscience Center. Many seals on a dock. A blue heron and a kingfisher on a breakwater, and a seal frolicking at the end of the big dock. What a great place to work!

Some of my dad’s ships. The Prince David was the most exciting as they ran into a hipper cruiser off the Para River, at least that is the story!

So on Remembrance Day remembering some of the original anti-fascists. My dad was in the navy for 25 years starting in WWII based in the Atlantic including the Caribbean and down to South America. Uncle Walt was in the army and saw active duty in the Netherlands. Miss em both!

Went for a great hike. Tides really high all day so did a trail walk between Fords cove and Shinglespit. We are all quite a bit older!!

On Hornby and reconnected with friends from my teenage years, Geoff, Steve and Doug. We met through working at McDonalds! I made a nice prime rib roast with Yorkshire puddings!!
November 11, 2025 at 2:22 AM
But of a rough ride to get to Hornby today! Had to go into the wind towards Fords cove and then cut hard once we were in a bit of the lee of the island. Quite the rocking and rolling for a while

This video does not do this murmuration justice. It was amazing! With the light turning the birds from light to dark. At the Tsawwassen ferry terminal . So I assume these are the migrating snow geese? If it is snow geese do you still call it a murmuration?

Yes I am a total victim of marketing! A distiller called “Holocene “ will get my business! I mean it would be better if it was called Pleistocene but you take what you can get!
