A whistleblower lawsuit has revealed that Colorado Governor Jared Polis has been illegally colluding with the Trump Administration to dox selfless community members who have opened their homes to unaccompanied migrant children. If the allegations described by the state labor director are true — which the Governor’s office has seemingly admitted to — Jared Polis must resign. Beyond being in violation of state laws he signed himself, the Governor’s decision to engage so openly with an agency as fundamentally depraved as ICE is a slap in the face to organizers who have worked tirelessly for decades to safeguard their communities from enforced disappearances and racist criminalization. This breach of public trust is a brutal reminder that even politicians who claim to be our allies will abandon us without regular accountability and ICE’s abolition. We must continue to demand more of our Democratic lawmakers. It is not enough to simply declare, “immigrants are welcome here”. Electeds uniquely suited to stand toe-to-toe with the Trump administration must actively obstruct all unconstitutional and inhumane efforts to criminalize immigration, not pave the way for the detention and deportation machine to prosper. Unlike Polis, the state labor director has exemplified the moral courage and responsibility we should expect from all of our representatives in the face of fascism. Our communities’ demand is crystal clear: stand firmly with us, or get out of the way.
