One of the law changes for 25/26 is that if the referee can clearly judge that a team will gain possession of the ball when play is stopped, the ball is dropped for them (in this case Chicago was clearly about to recover the deflection)

Went to the VOD to find the injury moment that apparently set the Chicago coach off. It was correctly officiated *by the 24/25 version of the rules* (which the NWSL is still using). When play was stopped Lacasse was the last person to touch the ball so the ball is dropped for Utah
