The Flaming Star Nebula is a beautiful emission and reflection Nebula in the Auriga constellation. It is 1,500 light years way and it spans over 5 light years. It surrounds the “run away” star known as AE Auriga.

The waning gibbous moon from last night. I over-sharpened it to make the features pop a bit. Also, increased the saturation for that mineral moon effect. Hope you all like it.

I nice astrophotography night here in Holualoa HI. This is a 3 hour exposure of the Crab Nebula (M1). It's a supernova remnant 6,500 light years away.

This is a 182 minute exposure of M1 using a Seestar S50. I cropped it a bit to show off the nebula, since it was pretty small in the full frame. This is one of my longer exposures and it really improved on the quality vs only 1 hour. It was also a bright full moon.

M81 (Bode's Galaxy) is a grand design spiral galaxy about 12 million light-years distant. The galactic nucleus contains a supermassive black hole of roughly 70 million solar masses. Image was taken over two nights (12/29 and 12/30) and represents about 16 hours total exposure. #Astrophotography
Messier 81 (Bode’s Galaxy) as a grand design spiral galaxy about 12 million light-years distant with a diameter of about 96,000 light years. The spiral structure with dust lanes makes it a very beautiful (and popular) target. This was a good test of my equipment at low temperatures. It got down to 20F on the first night with no glitches. Taken from my back yard.

The Rosette Nebula is an H II region in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way at a distance of approx. 5000 light years. The Nebula measures roughly 130 light years in diameter. The bright stars in the center excite the atoms in the nebula, causing them to emit radiation themselves.

Dunkler Himmel, zu sehen ist darauf ein roter Emissionsnebel, durch den eine Pferdekopf-förmige Dunkelwolke sichtbar wird.

Unistellar EVscope images from last night. This scope is best for fast live viewing vs astrophotography (IMHO). With a group, it’s particularly fun to very quickly view many amazing deep sky objects in a single night. #Unistellar #astronomy #stars #Nebula #planet #jupiter #EVscope
Jupiter is captured well with the EVscope. It exceeds my Seestar’s ability for viewing large planets. The Orion Nebula can be viewed in full color in a matter of a few minutes. Imaging beyond 5 minutes offers little improvement. This was 19 mins and it really isn’t noticeably better than after only a few minutes. As a result, Astrophotography isn’t stellar (forgive the pun), but it is great for viewing live and sharing the experience with others. The Horsehead Nebula requires perhaps 10 mins to get a good live image, beyond this offers little additional detail Still, it’s fun to view live and then move on to the next object of interest for the night.

NGC 2244, the Rosette Nebula, is a nebula and open cluster in the constellation Monoceros. The star cluster is compose mainly of very large, young and hot stars, that generate enormous stellar winds.

The Pleiades (M45) open star cluster. I added a star “burst” filter to the Seestar. Interesting effect, but perhaps a bit much. I was also hoping for more of the reflection nebula, but I guess a longer exposure is needed. #stars #astrophotography #cosmos #nebula #astronomy #seestar #Hawaii
M45, The Pleiades, is a beautiful open star cluster in the Constellation Taurus and it is visible to the naked eye. In the northern hemisphere look slightly above Orion’s Belt and to the right. It is about 440 light-years from Earth.
