Data Architect of sorts
Lover of sci-fi, fantasy, cats, SQL and science.
I'm generally cheerful, curious, nosy, distracted and I really enjoy meeting new people (sometimes)
I watched a series called Chernobyl and the open lines were: What is the cost of lies? It's not that we'll mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all. What can we do then?"

I felt this statement viscerally.

The "this route is busy and will take 15 mins longer" is one of my favourite AI things! But that may be because the data is more factual than subjective? When it comes to what I like or what I'm interested in, I feel Netflix, Spotify or YouTube try to narrow my field of vision and I don't like that

This is what I do know about AI.. I have to delete my Netflix profile regularly because apparently, watching a few things in a genre means that that must be ALL I want to watch. Not true.

Starting a new job is hard but exciting. I have to remind myself that it's okay not to know everything about a new industry on day 1. As long as you document your knowledge gaps and lean into daily learning.. getting it wrong in the beginning is a gift that whets your appetite for learning.

Please let's normalise starting the new year diet in the 2nd week of Jan. I need at least a fighting chance to finish off the thoughtful chocolate Christmas gifts before the January guilt kicks in 😁

*sigh* when you give a list of SQL coding standards to your supplier and you still find "select *" in their peer-reviewed code.

Well, after all the worrying and overthinking, I got the job after all. Woo hoo I get to learn new things.

So I had an interview for a Data Architect role. It was great, they gave me a presentation theme and a date far enough away I could properly prepare. Queue my ADHD response, fantastic focus on the topic, hours of research, a great presentation but then they asked me why I wanted the job... And blank

Does anyone else struggle with confrontation? Today I took a stand and said no when asked to do additional tasks outside my role because our small team is struggling with our current workload. I usually offer to help so this reversal has made me feel really uncomfortable. Any tips on how to say "no"

Morning #sqlfamily! A typical dull grey day in England. Perfect weather for working on my presentation about SQL coding standards... Anybody happy to share any personal loves/hates
