To be fair the non-response in the USA pre-dates Trump. The national myth surrounding the Second Amendment has been powerful. In this regard the American democracy has always been dysfunctional. Trump happily rides that train.

I've given up on the correct pronunciation of basil in North America. I haven't given up the fight on eradicating Appreciate You in place of the older, more comfortable appreciate it. Alas it might also be a lost battle at least in the USA. The latter is probably just my age showing.
