Tech writer, dad, gamer, mangler of the guitar. Aggie. Too many hobbies, not enough focus.
Indulge me for 2, please.

I dearly love the Infantino covers in the 60s, like Batman #194. Thor #337 is a callback to that design, but the action is coming at the reader.

And, if you get a chance to create something with your kid, you love it as much as any great cover.

LOVED that story arc as a kid.

I'd include 45-47, the intro of the Inhumans, & at least 52 w/the Black Panther. Great run of new characters & ideas. Arguably Kirby's best work.

First 100 issues are unparalleled.

My 15-yr-ol daughter was w/me when Stan autographed my old copy. I tried to get Jack's in Dallas in '86.

I figured you likely did.

I was good finally leaving Texas & its politics. But I love the music.

Have you listened to the Flatlanders All American Music (or More Legend Than Band)? It has a backstory as a 1972 that didn’t really didn’t get a release until 1990. I hunted a copy of the 8 track for years.

Dallas
Tonight I’m Gonna Go Downtown
You’ve Never Seen Me Cry

my favorite tracks.

A treasure. Clark, Van Zandt, Steven Fromholz, and Joe Ely are great songwriters.

Though I like Car & Scratch, Lillywhite was a great fit for Gabriel. Gabriel’s sound seems rooted in this album, the focus on percussion and the layered sound.

I’d like see them work together again, though given Gabriel’s intervals, he has maybe one more album. ;)

When we were kids, we had serif fonts and that was it. We didn't worry about readability. We drank from water hoses!

The bigger the serif, the better.

Calibri is a humanist font. Humanist!

Let's face it: Calibri is a gateway to Open Sans.

BTW I wish I could buy you beer and talk. 25 years ago was a hell of a stepping stone.
December 12, 2025 at 8:07 PM
Nope. Not going to change your mind because it's right.

We've seen the money trails & the talking points sourced. Even if not directly paid, Kirk served their aims: Attack Americans, and promote distrust & hate.

While I've called them cowards, too, that does assume the Congressional Republicans know what Trump's actions are bad for the US & harm Americans and what the right thing is . . . they're afraid to do it.

I'm not so sure they do.

See 2021-2025. I like Biden, and he did many good things. Great even.

But too many thought beating Trump was all it took. No. We needed both a reconstruction & constant drumbeat of his wreckage. See the "bipartisan infrastructure bill." No, that was a Democratic bill.

If he had glasses, he could pass for a 1972-73 member of Steely Dan.
December 11, 2025 at 1:50 PM
Indeed. Trump weakens the US to increased threats daily on multiple fronts for years to come. The J6 impeachment told us who they are.

35-40% of Americans--friends, family, & neighbors--are fundamentally untrustworthy to protect our country & our basic principles. This is their greatest crime.

“Somewhere in there is my daughter.”

This guy is utterly broken as a father & human because their kid is still there. And guess what…kids are nothing but change. Our lives are one change after another.

The father could share in their happiness but chooses not to. He’s the problem.

In spite of myself, I watched it.

I don’t feel schadenfreude. I’m not sure a story with an elite, wealthy protagonist works for me, esp in relationship issues everyone can have. I’m not interested in identifying with & normalizing these characters.

It seems very off brand for Noah.

So much strife right now seems to people angry at the idea of change, whether it’s the social or demographic changes or using someone’s preferred pronouns.

A coworker is a former music teacher from NE who moved to NO 6 yrs ago. He plays trad Irish music at Irish pubs.

I asked how he liked either Cajun or zydeco. And he hadn’t really listened much to em.

I’ve wondered how much they’re now novelty music. Or if like tejano, it’s still vibrant.
December 7, 2025 at 3:40 AM
Traditional as in conjunto? Or norteno? Or something else?

There’s actually a decent Hispanic population here. But it’s so weird not to hear tejano. At all. Even at the couple ofTex-Mex wannabe places.

There’ll be dancing …

Did they hire the band? Or is it someone they know?

Regardless those are good people (assuming it’s not a contemporary country band).

Nice room. Love the dark blue walls and the details on the crown molding.

Noah is hit & miss for me, but I appreciate what he tries to do.

I’d be interested to hear more of your thoughts on it.

I thought it looked like a bleak story but that the character’s “likability” might lead to an unsatisfying redemptive arc.

I hope more follow his lead, which is why the DOJ will likely come hard after him.

Sadly MAGA will make it hard on his family, too.
