Are pre-order not a thing in Japan? Aren't there online shops you could place a pre order on?

The next episode will cover what happened prior to the first episode. I honestly don't think you will need to watch First Gundam. You'll just miss out on the thrill of pointing at the screen when you recognize a 45 year old character. Highly recommend 0079 though, fantastic series.

Amuro is in Zeta for a Handful of Episodes, and viewers to this day fail to understand Char in Zeta and ask "Why he bad guy again?!". Both of their acts can be ignored in CCA. Going from MSGIII to CCA would be easier to the average viewer as the whole conflict is mentioned as briefly as Haman

By that logic you can ignore Zeta altogether as well as no major characters from it appear in CCA and it would be easier for a casual viewer to see Char return as the primary Villain after the final shot from Encounters in Space has him escaping the Earth Sphere
