I had an amazing visit to @embl.org’s Rome/Monterotondo site, thanks @jamiehackett.bsky.social for hosting!

Here’s a photo of the lovely garden that used to be a hangout spot and is now re-wilding as a shiny new research building is being constructed next door

Want to acquire #ExM images like this and help us understand the true extent of cytoskeletal diversity across the tree of life? This position might be for you!

Embroidered for the #DeyLab fridge by Masters student extraordinaire Babette van Amen, now on her way back to @agathechaigne.bsky.social for a PhD (despite our best attempts to convince her to stay 😉)

Had a wonderful time visiting old science haunts IISc and NCBS - so many new and old faces, incredible energy, exciting science. 🤩

Plus, how many of you get a soundtrack to accompany your seminar announcements? Hm? Hmmm?

Happy holidays from the #DeyLab and 🥂 to a wonderful 2025!

(If you haven’t seen one of our cards before, you’re thinking, oh that’s sort of vaguely unsettling, YES! And we are here for it 😊)

Not quite impartial here but - a lineup worthy of any major cell cycle conference. 😍 Stop by any of the lectures if you’re in Paris next week and interested in the cell cycle or cell division, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

(Just noticed the deadline, maybe they still let you register)

So happy to see that energy and community vibe from the early days in the old place, looks like #SciSky is reaching critical mass 😍

Reporting for duty with tales of the weird and wonderful cell biology you never knew you needed to know 🫡

#ExM has transformed how we perceive the microbial diversity all around us. Some gorgeous critters from the @EMBLHeidelberg pond - DNA red, centrin yellow, tubulin gray, images by @fmikus.bsky.social

Bonus points if you identify at least 4!

Interested in ultrastructural resolution with simple microscopes? U-ExM is for you! After an overwhelming response to this year’s pilot course, excited to teach the technique again next year, now with EMBO support!

24 hours with my EMBL TREC colleagues and UPV/BMCC hosts in Bilbao/Plentzia enriched by two works of art, the stunning Guggenheim and the equally mind-blowing @EMBL Advanced Mobile Lab 🤩 🧪 Happy fishing friends, sad I couldn’t stay longer!

Hmm I probably have to reduce the number of times I use the word “cell” in abstracts

(The “nanoparticles” comes from the other Gautam Dey on Pubmed, so seems to be some kind of inorganic chemist. Would be great to redo this with ORCID!)

One of those times I wish Bsky would support video - this insane protist is a single cell with a rotating head and nuclei, I kid you not

Intro time! My lab at EMBL uses a mix of experimental cell biology, comparative genomics and lab evolution in multiple microbial systems to study mitosis and nuclear remodelling. I have a fondness for weird and wonderful protists & advocate for preprints and innovation in the ways we share science
