LOL. There's a segment in St. Augustine's "Confessions," (circa 400 AD) where he writes about college teaching in Carthage and notes how bad the classroom discipline was. He thought about teaching in Rome, but students there wouldn't pay their tuition--due at the END of the course.

I used to hear that claim from my parents' generation. Then, at the age of 50, I became college faculty. A student (who was younger than my son) wrote in an essay, "Kids today just want everything handed to them."

I decided then that saying it was just a sign of some kind of brain atrophy.

That was Tom Nichols’s argument in last week’s Atlantic (as I understood it). He referred to the administration as a “confederacy of toddlers.”
