Sometimes the narrative is that we are helpless in the face of an vast and uncaring world. Even then, how a character responds to events they cannot control or change IS them driving the story.

IIRC Doyle hated Sherlock, and half the time Watson (and we can argue if a narrator is the same as a POV character) had to badger Holmes into being arsed with the investigation.

Haven’t actually seen it but as I understand, it’s about R&G being duped and ultimately executed. It’s about their response to events “outside their control,” so yeah they drive that narrative. In THAT play. While Hamlet drives the larger (different) narrative in Hamlet.
