I think the contrast is too low, it's the same colour as the background. I would adjust the values on it, or maybe a subtle animation will draw their attention.

That's a cool idea. I'll try to consider modability when I start coding that part! Probably it'll all be in json files but I may make an editor to help me during development, if so I'll share it.

For sure, there's tons of scope in an open world for this and I think it's what's really exciting about the idea. Instead of being told why you're fighting, you set your own stakes. Imagine combing ftl text dilemmas with rumours and treasure maps from a tavern or a crew person's backstory etc.

Just make sure you do a thorough search to make sure no one else is using it. My game Loadstar was called Starborn originally until I found out Zenimax had a pending trade mark on it 😭 naming is the hardest part! I like a short name fwiw, much nicer for graphic design 👍
