Out with the dogs down Merthyr Mawr today. The path was clear when we set out from the car but like this when we returned. 😬

One of my favourite pics of Vinnie. A selfie I took, with him (R) and Nelson (L) up on top of Merthyr Mawr Warren.

Sadly he passed away before he was able to perfect the ultimate "leg-pretzel" but, as you can see, he was pretty close...

Here he is, with his Spanish mate Bruno, sleeping at over 40 miles per hour - one of his favourite hobbies.

As it's #blackfriday here's our much missed black #greyhound Vinnie - an ex racer we adopted. Sadly cancer took him long before his time but he had a fun and loving place in our home and our family.

One of my other favourite snippets from Ben Wardle's excellent biography of Mark Hollis is this about Polydor boss David Munns' thoughts on hearing "Laughing Stock" - an album I love to the moon and back, but which is apparently not to everyone's taste... 🤣

I’ve been unable to write / play / compose for almost a year now, but I’m okay with silence. Thanks in a large part to this guy… ❤️🙌

These two old beauties have just arrived - cheap as chips off eBay, and I'm in heaven.
(RAC South Wales - pub: 1935, lovely maps, quaint adverts & illustrations)
(Travels in Egypt, pub: 1913, lovely photos of locations, & diagrams of artefacts).

It’s a cold, miserable day today. So I’ve knocked up this…
Diced lamb from the Farmers’ Market, smoked lardons, shallots, carrots, stock, white wine, garlic, rosemary & thyme, plus basic seasoning. It’s been on about 4 hours, and I’ve just added leeks. To be served up with a buttery mash.

Re-reading Ben Wardle’s excellent “Mark Hollis - A Perfect Silence” and once again the boss of Polydor’s reaction on hearing “Laughing Stock” makes me cackle.

PS: It’s a quite extraordinary, brilliant album. (Although clearly not for everyone 😆)

This book is so good for some inspirational winter dishes. I always fetch it out this time of year to steer me towards coming up with something rich and hearty.

Letting the chickens out of the coop this morning, and my little mate is back for the winter ❤️

I saw this exactly fifteen years ago today in an inflight magazine and I’m still incandescent with rage about it.

Turkey didn’t become popular at Christmas until the latter half of the Victorian era, and it didn’t become the country’s “traditional” Christmas dinner until after World War 2. Why is this ridiculous little man wetting his pants about it?

Potato salad to go with tonight’s Chicken Piri-Piri and baby green leaves. Boiled miniature potatoes, rolled in melted butter, and a dressing of Dijon mustard, lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper. Now resting with chopped parsley stirred in. 😋
