I am theoretical physicist. I do research on radiofrequency electromagnetic waves. I like watches and pens. And also magnets. Soy físico teórico. Investigo en ondas electromagnéticas de radiofrecuencia. Me gustan los relojes, las plumas y los imanes.
#SpeedOfLight Another interesting book is “Introducing Relativity. A Graphic Guide” by Bruce Basset and Ralph Edney published in 2002, Portsmouth University. Its graphics are great.

#SpeedOfLight First as a student when, of course, he could only spend half his time thinking about that theory. But the problem was always with him, in his head. He gave up many times, there were many unsuccessful attempts until the solution finally came to me, as he expected.

#SpeedOfLight Shankland in 1963 wrote: I asked Professor Einstein how long he had worked on the Special Theory of Relativity before 1905. He told me that he had started at age 16 and worked for ten years.

#SpeedOfLight According to Newton's theory the universe has a clock, there is a universal time scale, which applies to all inertial reference frames. This has always been a basic premise of Newtonian mechanics.

#SpeedOfLight Notice that only the special theory of relativity agrees with all the experiments listed. This fact was a great advance for the theory of Einstein elaborated from a sad man in a patent office.

#SpeedOfLight De Sitter in 1913 proposed that if the speed of light is not equal to c but is equal to c + kv (where v is the speed of the reference system), then k must experimentally be very small, less than 1E-3.

#SpeedOfLight Multiple experiments were done up to 1930 (for 49 years) and the conclusion was always the same. Electromagnetic waves are capable of propagating in a vacuum, to the great surprise of most physicists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

#SpeedOfLight The experiment carried out in 1881 by Michelson and Morley in Potsdam led to the rejection of the existence of the ether.

#SpeedOfLight Sound needs air to reach our ears. It was impossible for anything to propagate in a vacuum. For this reason, scientists invented the ether, which had zero density, was totally transparent at all frequencies, and permeated all space.

#SpeedOfLight Scientists in the 19th century were convinced that light, and all electromagnetic waves, needed a medium to propagate. Mechanical waves that are transmitted by a string need the string itself to propagate.

#SpeedOfLight The special theory of relativity (1905) considers reference systems moving with constant speed. In order to include accelerated reference frames, Einstein had to develop the general theory of relativity (1915).
