Researcher at the intersection of mass comm, media effects & social psych. I investigate how digital media affects social/group dynamics (influence, identity, intergroup relations) & online hate. 🤬🌐🤝🏾
Shining the spotlight on my great friends and colleagues (@kyungin-kim.bsky.social & @len-s.bsky.social). They crushed all their award presentations at #NCA2025!

Super happy to know we all recieved Top Paper Awards! 🔝📝🏆

Their accomplishments motivate me every day. Cheers to all of us! 🎉

I had the privilege of sharing my research on counterspeech, bystander intervention, source effects, and support for victims of online hate at the National Communication Association.

I'm grateful to be recognized with a Top Student Paper award in the Group Communication Division.

Ahmed Al-Rawi found some great qualitative data on whether experiences w/ racism could have a (+) impact on democracy. Amazing work bringing empirical support to quant-crit discussions.

🔑 Takeaways: The biggest theme was white supremacy. Politicians received higher OHS and self-censored more often.

Triantafyllos Gkaragkanis focused on online hate speech (OHS), affecting migrants in E. Europe.

They proposed digital literacy as a possible intervention to curtail anti-Migrant OHS.

🔑 Takeaways: Some countries have ⬇️ OHS, are more open to migration, but are ⬆️ in stereotypical media depictions.

Kellen Sharp discussed some interesting points re: technoculture and digital diaspora. They utilized LLMs to study anti-Racist discourse on reddit.

I see lots of overlap with my own work on online hate speech & bystander intervention.

🔑 Takeaway: Solidarity is important for anti-Racist discourse!

I had an amazing experience presenting qualitative data at the Psychology of Media & Tech preconference at #SPSP2025 on Thursday! 👨🏽‍🏫

It was wonderful connecting with so many young and senior scholars at @spspnews.bsky.social this year. 🤝🏾

Looking foward to submitting for #SPSP2026 next year! 🤩

Some really interesting and thought-provoking discussion earlier at the "How should large language models be used in social psychology?" panel at @spspnews.bsky.social #SPSP2025!

Probing many questions we as social scientists ask about our research as LLMs are utilized more in social psychology. 🤔
