Quite true. As I noted they could just push out a software update that bricks the aircraft anytime they like.

Well exactly.

The story is that there is no actual "off" switch, but they control the supply of parts and the software and can easily push out a software update in advance of any war that would disable the aircraft.

Keep in mind this is a complex story, including that the Canadian military cooked the competition to favour the F-35 because it is their fanboi fav and also that regardless of ratings, we cannot buy aircraft from a country that has threatened to invade us.
