Hmmmm. Yes, I think this falls under "substance use disorder," the substance in question being greyhounds! 😆😆

Oh! I adopted him three days after bringing him home. I pretty much knew I was going to adopt him--we knew ahead of time that he's friendly and people-y. He's done very well, but he IS young and kind of wild and not as chill as my others. He's settling in well, though.

He'd gone to another family with a cat for 3 weeks before adoption to see if he was cat friendly, but I'd had him up to that point. How strange that I'd walked into a random store in Chicago and run into someone who knew about my foster galgo! That's my story. Here's more dogs. #galgo #sighthounds

I say "were" because greyhound adoption groups are starting to bring galgos over. But 3 years ago, that wasn't so true. Anyway, I asked if she remembered her friend's new dog's name. She did. When she mentioned it, my jaw dropped. That dog had been my foster not a month earlier!

I started to explain what a #galgo is and the young woman stopped me. She said, "Oh, I know what a galgo is! My very best friend just adopted one!" I knew her friend had to have adopted from LHB, the group I'm involved with, because we were the only galgo adoption people in the Midwest.

All of this is preamble to the real story. When I was at the counter paying for the statues, the young woman behind the counter asked if I like greyhounds. I said yes, explained my many years in greyhound rescue and adoption, and then told her that I'd gotten involved with #galgos. Here are two:

I could have bought them individually or as a pair and I truly did debate whether I should buy even one of them, let alone two, given their price tag. They had to be ordered and shipped from the warehouse since the store only had the window display. So anyway, here they are in my house 3 years later

I knew the statues would be pricey, so I did try to resist temptation. Really. But I went back to my hotel the same way and instead of walking by the store, I went in. Because of course I did. I asked whether they came only as a pair or if I could buy them singly. They were, indeed, expensive.

On the way to the restaurant, I walked by a Jonathan Adler store on Wells. I saw these. Of course I stood there on the street for half an hour just looking and then went to get some brunch. I thought I'd better take a different way back to the hotel, but, of course, I did not.

I went to Chicago to attend my best friend's daughter's wedding 3 years ago. I went up the night before to hang out with our mutual friends, so I was staying at a hotel. The wedding was in the evening, so the day of, I walked over to a brunch place. Apropos of nothing, here's my #greyhound Tamarind.
