Farage, a man who, had he been around during WW2, would having been praying for an invasion while sewing his own SS uniform. Quitting indeed.

We stayed in Toronto with a guy who had been my MiL's boyfriend way back and had since married an Indian lady. When we went out with her family they had to say we were cousins because it was the only way they could make it understandable in an Indian context ....

She's a racist. Should be a short programme tonight now we've git that settled.

I can safely say that I have more culture in common with the sort of people they want to deport than I have with racist imbeciles like Lam and Frost.

Agreed, but the figures are still bollocks aren't they.
October 22, 2025 at 9:12 AM
This is bollocks surely? 50k brits want to live in other European countries. 350k EU want to do the same, so will be spread across the UK and other EU countries, they aren't all going to want to come here.

I think Olivier is French? Basically we've got loads of odd royals hanging around Europe who would be delighted to freeload off you guys and sign anything, no matter how mad, into law.
October 20, 2025 at 2:51 PM
We've got a spare royal in the UK we could send you to be a constitutional monarch. Him and your president might well have met at some parties in the US a few decades ago....

From all the by-elections last Thursday I think LDs won 7, Reform 1, Tories 1, Independent 1. Is that right? And why aren't the BBC interviewing Davey every day?

She was born in Birmingham, as (I think) were her parents. If they want to deport her there it's about a 45 minute train ride.

We did "who, alive or dead, would you like to have coffee with?" on our team social the other week. I picked Emma because she rocks. I spent 10 minutes explaining who she was to my bemused American colleagues in excruciating detail. Quite killed the rest of the session to be honest.

I think you mean "Deport them if they aren't white.".
August 21, 2025 at 1:03 PM
Maybe, (not sure I'd trust AI to add two numbers together based on my experience of the current models). Oh well, we can look wait for the details.

It just seems like a "dementia tax" to me. A fair idea to try to resolve problems in this area, but easy for the Mail etc. to use edge cases to hammer home how unfair it is to you, when it will actually never hit you, just people who should pay more tax anyway.

Aren't those valuations done on demand though? I click, the app has a look at recent sales in my area and houses for sale, does a quick calc and presents it me. And they are quite inaccurate, open to people to object to? I don't object to get basic idea, just not sure it's practical.
August 19, 2025 at 3:36 PM
But that means someone having to do a revaluation of every house bought for more than £500k every year doesn't it? If we're doing that why not just go for a wealth tax?
August 19, 2025 at 3:28 PM
0.5% of purchase price, or current price?

This is basically the 2014 Black Mirror Xmas episode, White Christmas.

The protest last year was small too. And it was mainly people from outside the city anyway

The one in Southampton looked pitifully small - c. 20 people with flags (we used to use the hotel for away days and to put up external examiners)...

I went to the counter protest for that one. 200+ of us met in the park, and when we marched round the corner into Grosvener Square and saw how few of them there were I almost felt sorry for them .... almost
