🏡 Did you know? GVRA may help fund essential residence modifications for individuals with severe physical disabilities when needed to achieve their employment goal. Examples include:

Glasses or contact lenses may be authorized by GVRA when they are vocationally necessary to support your employment goal.

📘 Did you know? GVRA can authorize payment for required exams that help an individual qualify for entrance into training or to practice their agreed-upon employment goal. Each specific exam can only be authorized once.

✔️ Public transportation fares or mileage-related costs
✔️ Training to learn how to use public transit safely & independently

Did You Know? Before GVRA can decide that a person with a disability is unable to benefit from vocational rehabilitation services, they must first provide Trial Work Experiences. This ensures every individual has a fair and meaningful opportunity to demonstrate their potential for employment.
According to CSPM 8.3.1, GVRA is required to explore an individual’s abilities, capabilities, and capacity to perform in realistic work situations before making any determination about eligibility or the severity of someone’s disability. 📦 GVRA may assist with the transport of personal belongings when an individual has secured or been promised suitable employment in writing from an employer. The new job must be more than 50 miles from your current residence.

GVRA may authorize placement in a recovery residence for eligible individuals recovering from alcohol or drug dependency — but only when the individual is actively receiving treatment as a primary rehabilitation service.

⚖️ If you disagree with a decision made by the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency - GVRA, you have specific rights & steps you can take: 1️⃣ Written Notice -- GVRA must provide written notice of certain decisions and your due process rights, including your right to mediation, a formal review, a fair hearing, and information about the Client Assistance Program (CAP). 2️⃣ Informal Resolution -- Start by talking with your VR counselor to try to resolve the issue. You may also speak with a supervisor if needed. 3️⃣ Formal Review -- If the issue isn’t resolved, you may file a written appeal or complete a Request for Review of GVRA Determination form. Must be submitted within 15 business days of receiving your notice. 4️⃣ Mediation -- You and GVRA can agree to work with a neutral mediator at any time between the formal review and a fair hearing. 5️⃣ Fair Hearing -- If the issue is still not resolved after an administrative review, you may request a fair hearing with an Administrative Law Judge. DYK: GVRA may authorize On-the-Job Training (OJT) to help individuals with disabilities build entry-level job skills that support their employment goals?
Need help building entry-level skills for competitive, integrated employment? GVRA can reimburse an employer/trainer one-half the agreed upon starting wage of an individual/trainee for up to 40 hours/week. An OJT salary supplement may be authorized for up to 6 months. Under GVRA’s CSPM Section 8.1.2, exceptions to policy can be granted to meet an individual’s unique VR needs—when it’s necessary to help them reach their employment goal. Ask your VR counselor about the process or call CAP for guidance.

If you’re exploring the Self Employment path, it’s important to understand GVRA's requirements & process. The Self Employment Comprehensive Needs Assessment includes several phases to ensure your business is viable & can become your primary source of income once established. CSPM 8.5.5

GVRA can provide agricultural job retention services to help individuals with disabilities keep employment as the owner or operator of an existing farm business. These services can assist with worksite accommodations or addressing work-related challenges so you can continue doing the work you love.

Myth: Clients of GVRA cannot have inaccurate or misleading information removed from their case file. Fact: Per GVRA’s CSPM (Policy 8.1.5, Cite 1.5): "All individuals shall be informed of their right to request removal or amendment of misleading or inaccurate information from their case file."
