It's one offhand remark I randomly heard on TV 15 years ago against a vast, extremely varied 50+ year body of work, but as someone who's always doubted himself despite a wealth of reassurance and support, it's helped me see myself and, hopefully, stay a little humble. One more thing he was good at.

A few years ago, I saw an interview with him, I'm not sure where, where he described himself as "not great at one thing, but good at a lot of things."

As an artist who often feels like a jack of all trades and master of none, who's lack of success comes from having too many passions, I feel this.

I'm vaguely aware of the controversy around him using his clout to get ultra strict anti-smoking laws passed in California, and only because of South Park. And of course, it's always easy to envy someone who's success in a given business can largely be attributed to their own parents'.

However...
