Today, North Water Street runs below the plaza, crossing Lower Michigan Avenue, and the rails still embedded in the pavement are partially exposed, a revealing relic of this industrial history.

Before its completion in 1957, this plaza area was open right-of-way for North Water Street and the C&NW Navy Pier rail spur serving Kraft Cheese, Jap-Rose Soap, Goodrich Tires, and Lipton’s Tea factories nearby.
