The chatbot products are not going to want to have the responsibility of a merchant, which means they won't autonomously transact on behalf of the buyer.

They could serve as an effective product discovery tool, and as a payment wallet mechanism, but I suspect will delegate the "checkout" itself.

This is the basis for all kinds of disputes, and it dictates the buyer's rights under various consumer protection laws. These can be very specific and dictate that the merchant disclose things or obtain consent in the checkout UI (which is where the "contract" is agreed).

The other thing that they're missing is that there is a Contract of Sale between the buyer and the merchant (which includes the refund policy, quantity and condition of goods, delivery/collection agreements).

GenAI is just a gigantic dopamine slot machine providing instant gratification to people who don't want to put in any work or thought at all. It gives them the dopamine rush of feeling like they made something, but now instead of being addicted to farming simulator, they're running actual farms.
