NT87Z slowly loosened the steel nut on the exterior of the station, holding itself in place with its thrusters.

"What's it doing?" a small boy asked, watching through the viewport.

His mother, drifting beside him, tightened her grip on his t-shirt as the hissing of gas got louder.

Count Vold rose from his grave and blinked the crusted, crimson sleep from his eyes. The wood of his coffin was carved with figures of demons and haunts, worn smooth with centuries of handling.

"I could go for a victim," groaned the count.

"Your diet," his stooped thrall admonished him.

The IncRizziter unfurled the golden tweet and denounced the kneeling beta cuc.

"You are found to have no aura. Your sentence is unalive," boomed a voice fastidiously trained in vox maxxing. The ceremonial blade fell, canceling the condemned man.

"Pogers," yapped the robed official.

Dusty stares sadly at the big revolver sagging gloomily in his right hand.

"We know the plan?" Red barks. "Dusty, tills. Me on the crowd. Hawk, watch the door. Meet at the bank at dawn."

"Jeez, Red," Dusty says. "I didn't realize robbin' was so much work. Can't we go back to the mine?"

It moved in the forest. As it moved, the forest shifted to accommodate the writhing horns of the unnameable thing. The inky tendrils coalesced as a claw that grasped a forgotten can of Vienna Sausages.

Webs of concrete spread from the cities like crabs' legs. The growth intertwined. From it, new cities sprouted and more webs spread. In a few years, the planet was encircled by the creeping concrete.

"Well fuck that," the astronomer said, peering from a distant star. "Maybe AX0782 is still nice."

"Desperate psychotic people do desperate psychotic things when they’re exposed. I refuse to grant them immunity from exposure out of fear of their reaction. When you do, the desperate psychos wind up in charge."

-James Holden in Caliban’s War by James A. Corey

Picking his normal filter, he dragged his index finger to the right and watched his pectoral muscles grow. Dragged again and watched his skin clear. Watched his calves tighten. His complexion darken. His teeth straighten.

Raymond smiled. It felt so good to be one of the beautiful people.

The AI-driven UMAD-72 hunter-killer droid packs more firepower into a 200kg frame than would have been imaginable just 10 years ago. It is striding boldly onto the proving ground now.

"UMAD, engage!" cries General Lordly

"Fuck off," mumbles UMAD, nestling comfortably in the grass.

The engineers of Pfornorfin 8 came to Earth to raise global temperatures, acidify oceans, and extinct the large animal species. They would make this planet a home for their colonists.

"Shit," they mumbled after disembarking their vessel. "I hope we still get paid."
