He doesn’t remember when he started talking to Law every day. Even as the years blur past, their routine doesn’t change. Every night there’s Law—memes, half-awake conversations, laughter spilling through the speakers. Luffy, who never thought he’d care this much about a screen, finds comfort there. Sheer coincidence brought them together. It was a shared online game that brought them together, a game where only voices and ridiculous avatars could communicate. Luffy remembers being completely baffled seeing Law's avatar fully decked out in what could be described as nothing short of a leather daddy aesthetic. Which Luffy immediately asked about, and Law took it in stride. There was never an awkward phase with Law. They clicked instantly, regardless of their different jobs and friend circles. This made the upcoming weekend even more thrilling. For the first time since their online meeting, they would spend time together in person. The thought of it had Luffy bouncing with excitement in his chair. “You’re sure it’s still okay for me to stay with you?” Law said. “Of course it is! Hancock and I have a guest room for friends and stuff like this, and you’re a friend! So you should stay with me.” Luffy grins and quickly adds, “Oh! There’s a really good ramen place I wanna take you to—and a donut shop that has the coolest flavors—or maybe the barcade nearby?” Law chuckles again. “Oh, and I’ve gotta introduce you to some of my friends! They’re going to love you—” “How about we make a plan on what to do? I’m not going to be there for long. Just a few days.” “Mhhh, it’ll be fine. You can still stay the whole week if you change your mind!” “That’s not how plane tickets work.”

Law kisses like he’s dangling his legs over the edge of an ocean cliffside. Caught between judging the distance and already plummeting down into the dark water below. The air between them hums–humid, electric. The room smells faintly of stale dryer lint and rain; the windows fogged, with streetlight spilling in broken amber stripe across Law’s cheekbone. Somewhere outside, a car engine turns over, then faces into the low thrum of city noise, muffled and far away. His lips are softer than Luffy expects. Breath caught in his throat and heart racing beneath his ribs, it’s all Luffy can do to chase the high kissing Law gives him. Law tastes like something tart and clean, like lemons and metal and adrenaline. His pulse thrums against Luffy’s mouth. Luffy doesn’t hesitate–he’s pure instinct, pressing his chest against Law’s and grinding their hips together. The friction between their clothes a forgotten barrier, drowned beneath the rhythm of breath and heartbeat and the rustle of denim against fabric. Somewhere, the clock ticks once. The world contracts to this: the press of Law’s hand on his jaw, the sound of their uneven breathing, the tremor in Law’s shoulders when Luffy kisses harder. He only remembers to breathe when Law’s teeth collide with his, because Law pulled back and Luffy chased. “Jesus–Luffy, fuck–” “I’m trying to.” “Go slower. It’s not a race.” Luffy groans, forehead pressed to Law’s, voice a rasp against the quiet. “I just want you.”

God for the life of me I cannot find this comic that I SWEAR is real. I remember it vividly. It’s a comic of Idaho and Mina playing the new Pokemon game ( X&Y) at the time, and they were talking about how hot professors sycamore was. Eye brow waggles. I thought it might be this artist—but it isn’t!!

Anyway, here's some WIP Wednesday, but actually on Thursday, lulaw fail losers from an unnamed short I've been working on. They're both idiots.
The subway rattles, lights flickering overhead. The air smells faintly of piss and metal, and a low hum of chatter surrounds them, punctuated by the squeak of brakes. Luffy sways with the train. He feels the press of bodies around him, the soft brush of a stranger’s sleeve, and yet all his attention is pinned to Law. His knees almost brush against Law’s. Almost—but every time the car jerks, Law shifts away, precise and deliberate, careful not to let anything linger too long. He studies Law’s reflection in the window instead of his face, tracing the line of his jaw where the passing lights catch, the quiet curve of his lips. Law hands him a drink, carefully and deliberately. Their fingers brush for a fraction of a second before Law pulls his hand back like he’s touched a live current. In an utterly awful attempt at recovery, Law coughs, shifting slightly and crossing his legs, eyes flicking to the floor like he’s caught in a storm he can’t control. Luffy can feel the lingering warmth from Law’s leg—a heat that seems conscious, held back, measured—and it tugs at something inside him. The space between them on a crowded railcar, surrounded by Law’s friends, feels like a canyon, every inch carefully measured, a line drawn in the air, Law won’t let break. It’s been like that the whole ride—thirty minutes now—and Luffy can’t ignore it anymore. “Do you not like people touching you, or is it just me?” he blurts. Law’s eyes flick up, quick. “Uh—I. I didn’t know if you’d. I didn’t want to assume.” “Assume that I don’t like being touched?” “That’s not what I was saying—” “It’s okay if you want permission,” Luffy says, simple as breathing. “You can touch me.” Law goes still, a faint heat radiating from him that Luffy can feel across the small space between them. The train hums and rattles beneath their feet, tiny vibrations buzzing through the floor and into their knees, and Luffy can almost feel Law’s restraint in the way his body tenses and leans away just slightly, like he’s holding himself in check. Two of Law’s friends, both too sharp, too knowing, take this moment to weigh in. They talk to Luffy like they’re all in on some secret that only Law is left out of. One of them leans in, grinning. “Careful, Law. Don’t let him think you’re soft.” Law nearly chokes on his coffee. Luffy laughs, not really getting it, but liking the sound of Law’s voice when he snaps back at them, pitchier than usual, somehow happier. The space between them feels intimate, electric, something he can’t name. He wants more—more of this, more of Law. He can’t help being drawn into the orbit of someone so alive, even when holding himself back. His fingers twitch, almost reaching for that warmth he can feel but not claim.

Screenshot of a conversation reading: First person “so I don’t like Earnest Hemingway because I think when people criticize writers and say “this writer hates women” they usually aren’t super accurate but when it comes to Hemingway, that man HATES women. He was a closeted gay man who had an affinity for prose and he used that affinity to tell stories about how women are manipulative and want to make the lives of men more difficult. I find his writing to be pretty hopeless and as a female-bodied person I often feel when reading Hemingway that his books are not intended for me to read. A lot of people argue that Hemingway’s portrayal of women isn’t misogynistic because he writes three dimensional and well-rounded characters, and that’s true to an extent, but the themes surrounding his characters and stories often have to do with the suffering of men due to expectations of women — themes that I’m sure matter to male scholars who want to feel seen, but themes that feel suffocating for me. He writes “manly” men, and those manly men suffer in his books, because he was sort of obsessed with the idea of masculinity and explored it a lot in his novels. Which, again, I’m sure to male scholars who struggle with understanding their masculinity and hating it within themselves find some sort of comfort in the themes of Hemingway’s works, but as a female-bodied person whose life has been plagued by toxic masculinity causing issues for me my entire life, I have a hard time connecting to the protagonists of Hemingway’s stories. People will say to me “that’s the point he writes about bad men being awful” but I counter that with, “that’s not a lesson I need to learn” Response: Wow he sounds insufferable. First person: You’d hate him. Screen shot that says: Hemingway is really well known for his ability to show and not tell which I do commend him for and I think anyone who wants to be a writer professionally or study literature should read at least one novel of his I think he did a lot with prose and I think he is famous for a reason But I don’t like him
