Let's be honest, if you know morrowind lore, you know the companion wouldn't be a squire until like, 1/3 of the way through the story.

That and you can buy armor all you like if you're twitchy, paranoid, or trigger happy.

You should not buy a gun if you are any of those above things. You need time with a firearm, training to get those things under control so you don't accidentally pull the trigger on something you didnt mean to.
