To put it into perspective, I didn't have access to steam or a proper way to buy it back in my country (nor the money), and played through the whole last year before graduating school. As soon as I was in a new country and got money I bought it, no questions asked.

That's nice! I have problems picking something specific to compliment, as I tend to see pieces as a whole, so it's hard for me to describe exactly what I like most of the time. But this is a nice option too.

Tbh, I personally don't tend to compliment art even if I like it because it can come off as generic and disingenuous. I think commenting in your own unique way comes off as more genuine!
