words in places and ways they probably shouldn't be
makes sense; I'd expect a combined mandate taking that into account to be a neutral change at worst then?

yeah fair

overall (robashton.ca/robs-good-jo...) this feels much more like a 20th century ndp platform (complimentary) than anything since 2011

woah north on south

this one is newer but a classic in its own right
Councillors break into applause to celebrate Councillor Stephen Holyday actually supporting a cycling item for once.

In response, Holyday stands up on a point of privilege to complain that “the silliness in the chamber is becoming unparliamentary.”

just watched erskine-smith's video on the budget and he specifically calls out OAS reform, maybe there is one hope

also he uses the words "real keir starmer energy" which is incredible
November 11, 2025 at 12:43 AM
even mulcair's disaster balanced budget didn't touch OAS, I think it's only going to get less likely on the left as time goes on
November 10, 2025 at 8:41 PM
we do need means testing one way or another, the issue is just political will — only hope in that regard seems to be zoomer conservatives unfortunately
November 10, 2025 at 8:40 PM
at this point you'd need to build it up alongside an already ballooning OAS that it'll only be able to replace well after the latter has already gotten unsustainably expensive though
November 10, 2025 at 8:32 PM
benefit is way too long term for any politician to see value in eating the up front cost
November 10, 2025 at 8:22 PM
CPP is contribution based, OAS is a general welfare program funded from revenue
November 10, 2025 at 7:38 PM
oh yeah CPP is fine, OAS is a black hole but not to the same extent as the US/UK equivalents — doesn't mean it isn't something we're going to need to deal with eventually though
November 10, 2025 at 7:31 PM
yeah, that was victoria taylor; that era ended once pao stepped down
November 10, 2025 at 7:30 PM
would primarily attribute it to ellen pao putting in the work to make AMAs a thing — I think it's hard to replicate without reddit's mix of broad audience size while still having access to spaces with specialized moderation
November 10, 2025 at 6:46 PM
I've found it interesting that social security is in way worse shape long term than OAS/CPP here, but calls for cuts to the latter seem much more prevalent across the grassroots of basically all CA parties (bloc clusterfuck excepted) than to the former within any US party
