I adore Cavafy. He's one of my favourite poets. This is his most famous poem, Ithaka. It was Jackie Onassis' favourite too, and she asked for it to be read at her funeral.

I see your dill recipes and I raise you. This is anithopita, or dill pie, a kind of pancake stuffed entirely with fresh dill leaves. It's a speciality of The Old Mill at Argyroupoli, one of our local tavernas here on Crete.

It's a day for poetry. I think. Wilfrid Owen is my favourite WWI poet. He was killed in action on November 4th 1918, exactly one week before the armistice.
