That is so frustrating for him! I've found it really helps my students with decoding, but I totally emphasize. Sounds like he should take a page out of my book as an elementary student and secretly read under his desk the whole time 😂

Huh this is interesting, my district uses 95% (another science of reading program), but it has embedded stories in it that students read and identify parts in. Does your son have additional ELA time or has foundations completely replaced it? My students read 4-5 novels a year and have silent reading
