Let's be clear... The decline was slight. The chicken still tasted very good, and the toum top notch.

There are other charcoal chicken places that do a top job. Hawa chicken is close to my parents at Seven Hills, and Anar at Homebush got me through the Seminary.

On the one hand, this makes it more likely that I will get one this side of the Great Dividing Range, on the other, will it be any good?

I am fairly sure I first went there when there was only one store.

It's very good. The quality had already dipped slightly since those heady days (lots more stuff made and packaged off site now) but still a favourite.

Surely you get at least that from the podcast?

I don't know about anger, but I have only heard of two of these.

Would be quite happy with AI slop

This is why it was easier in the old days.

"Let anyone who declares that baklava is lasagne be anathema"
November 11, 2025 at 8:49 AM
I mean... maybe.

We can all agree that baklava is not lasagne though.

I should add to this that one of my favourite dishes is tteokbokki, which are rice cakes, but rice cakes are obviously not cakes.

Loaf is surely more about shape than substance, no?

Just call it rosti. There is sometimes a reason we have different words for things :)

This is where the British sense of pudding is useful.

I feel like cake must be the sort of thing you can have for pudding.

Nobody is serving the above for pudding.
November 11, 2025 at 8:24 AM
Is this really a cake or just a cake by analogy?

U wot mate

I feel like sweetness is constitutive of a cake but I am sure someone would correct me and point out some savoury cake served in a mountainous village in northern Spain and make me look a fool.

I feel like the presence of pastry certainly changes things.

I wouldn't consider mille feuille a trifle.

Not a roll? Americans would call what we call a chicken burger a sandwich
November 8, 2025 at 2:13 AM
So nothing that you would call a wrap is a sandwich?
November 8, 2025 at 2:12 AM
A doner kebab?
A KFC twister?
November 8, 2025 at 1:57 AM
Is a burrito a sandwich?
November 8, 2025 at 1:38 AM
Seriously though, I feel like bread is a necessary element in a sandwich.
