This is great, it’s a difficult phenomenon to describe articulately (I certainly can’t) but I hope more people start talking about it like this.

This is what you get after decades of rolling your eyes at right wing bullshit while waving it through, but never actually opposing it.

Regular folk might notice that we have smashed the postwar settlement trying to appease these people, laid waste to the public realm, made much of the country unlivably expensive for many people, all to try to make these cranks happy. But they’ll never be happy, as long as we exist and speak.

He had a grand old time during the wrecking years so I find his confusion less than compelling.

If most people’s lives get worse and harder for the best part of two decades and the only explanation offered is “It’s the fucking immigrants and leftist traitors”, screamed in red, blue and white at punishing volume out of every TV and radio, then that will not do good things for The Discourse.
