When the shutdown started, I did not expect them to last more than a week or two. But with polls increasingly showing the Republicans being blamed, the fact that red state voters are getting hammered by SNAP and ACA, and the voting last week, the decision to fold now feels particularly performative

he didn't vote for it, but he's not learned anything from this disaster. saying "oh well, we shot our shot!" after this capitulation is the same as saying "we never intended to really fight, this was all a performance." no thanks.

Senator, we aren't going to just *forget* that the Dems caved, AGAIN, getting nothing in exchange for the last 40 days of suffering. this is precisely why many americans don't trust Dems. we say we'll fight, and then ... just quit, for no gain. i've made my last donation to you cowards.
November 10, 2025 at 11:31 PM
but but but we get to lose a vote in the Senate, so even if the House won't even hold a vote, we won the shutdown!!
November 10, 2025 at 11:25 PM
"hard working americans"
"common sense solutions"
"bipartisan"
"state and federal partners"

these should all be stricken from Ds vocabulary entirely. i mean literally never say any of these things again. ever. everyone HATES these phrases, and they generally just mean "we're screwing you over"

no one is this credulous. stop the fucking gaslighting!!

my crystal ball has him, like Lieberman and Cuomo before him, running as an independent because they won’t accept that NO MEANS NO

my “I am a weakling” t-shirt has people asking me a lot of questions best answered by my t-shirt

JFC no one will care that the Rs voted for the 71st time to cut the ACA. everyone who cares to know ALREADY KNOWS their position

CALL YOUR MOM THEN
November 10, 2025 at 10:36 PM
this is a lie. no one is saying this to her.
November 10, 2025 at 10:34 PM
"so long as" is doing all the work here. why are you assuming they'll do something they've never done before, when all evidence is to the contrary? this is just wishcasting
November 10, 2025 at 10:33 PM
shouldn't the senate minority leader generally have some impact on *shrugs and looks at America* and if not, isn't that kind of an indictment of him?
November 10, 2025 at 10:28 PM
WE ALREADY KNOW THAT. what we need is the ACA subsidies.
November 10, 2025 at 10:25 PM
that means 40 of them agreed to pretend that they aren't supporting the 7 who are named. it's simply not a coincidence that all 7 of them are not up for re-election. they were chosen among the caucus to offer their votes becuase they can't be voted out
November 10, 2025 at 10:22 PM
"...however, despite this, i have decided not to, and that's all there is to say about that."
November 10, 2025 at 10:13 PM
if by effective you mean accomplishes tasks the voters want, of course not. but if you mean accomplishes what his donors want, the man is legend
November 10, 2025 at 10:12 PM
i'm missing something here. is king suggesting the best (only?) way to fight back is to capitulate entirely? WTF, MAINE?!?
November 10, 2025 at 10:00 PM
because they don't want to solve the problem! they want the problem to exist, for campaign purposes. see also, immigration & the deficit.
November 10, 2025 at 9:52 PM
nothing
November 10, 2025 at 9:28 PM
good summary, and yes.
November 10, 2025 at 3:58 AM
it was another of our losing VP candidates—lieberman—that cost us the 60th vote for a clear path to medicare for all when the ACA was being negotiated in the senate. losing the VP race should get you relegated to lower office

but just think of how fucking dry it must be!

sure, most powders are dry, we can all agree on that. it’s basically the main thing that defines ‘what is a powder?’ right, that it’s dry? but this powder, man, this powder they’ve been storing up oh shit it’s like SO GODAMNNED DRY
