So much of the criticism about the Bad Bunny halftime show centers on not being able to enjoy it because it wasn’t in English. That’s actually a feature not a flaw of the Eurovision Song Contest. Check out what Ukraine won with in 2022. I loved it! youtu.be/UiEGVYOruLk?...

HAPPY FLANNEL FRIDAY to all who celebrate. Always the First Friday in February. Walt will never be late again for the Flannel Friday group photo. He learned the hard way THERE IS NO TARDY IN FLANNEL FRIDAY.

Latin Music headlining the Grammy's and the Super Bowl is nothing new. In 1960, Latin rhythms were so popular here that top American stars like Dean Martin & Peggy Lee released whole Latin themed albums and even sang in Spanish. We survived that. We'll survive Bad Bunny.

My Google Photos app just reminded me we had a little snow in Austin 15 years ago today (Feb 4, 2011.) The photo also reminded me that i used to be able to see all the way to the back of my garage. Just a fond memory now.

Caught the tail end of a small ICE protest in far south Austin around 2:15. Maybe 3 dozen kids. One told me they walked from Bailey Middle School which is about 3 miles away. That’s quite a hike… which would explain why they ended up cooling their heels at the local Starbucks.

They’re baaack! School buses are running again as Austin ISD returns to the classrooms after a long frigid weekend. Remember when school buses say STOP you STOP!

Scraped all my ice off except the sun roof. I can do without that for now. How did you weather the storm?

I made one last trip to H-E-B for critical supplies before the freezing cold. H-E-B says it will be closing at 5pm today (Jan 24.)
January 24, 2026 at 9:01 PM
Not happy about having to bring in the plants? It could have been worse. You could have had to do it for your H-E-B. Stay warm.

Tony’s not letting a little cold wet weather keep him from watching his trains this morning. Still safely above freezing at 7:15 AM. Make sure you keep up with the weather.

Friday night at 10:15 my Google Home "smart speaker" is predicting heavy snow and 24 for Saturday morning in Austin. Time will tell.

If you're looking for a generator to prepare for the weekend cold you may find the cupboard bare. I did today at my Home Depot in South Austin. Luckily i got mine after the 2021 statewide freeze and I test it monthly. I'm set. Are you?

What happened to my package? Doorbell video confirms package delivery and time lapse afterward reveals what happened next.

Retirement let's me shop early in the week to prep for this weekend's expected cold weather. Today I realized Monday holidays allow others to do the same. Happy MLK Day to all who celebrate.

January 10th, 2002 Rachel Cooke disappeared while out on a run near her family’s home outside Georgetown. She was never seen again but her family and friends haven’t given up hope. We will not forget.

Did you see the clouds racing past the moon this morning? My variation on stopping to smell the roses. Have a great day.

Up early as usual. This breezy morning I got to see the clouds racing past the moon.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I decided to get my drone up in the air to see the neighbors greet the new year with their fireworks. Here's what I saw at the stroke of midnight across South Austin. Did you experience something similar?

Here’s to that Die Hard Christmas spirit. May our reluctant hero always find the strength to rise to the occasion when we need them most. Merry Christmas and God bless us every one.

My sister Nora’s artsy take on Christmas decorations. The painting is her work, too. How’s your home looking for the holidays?
December 24, 2025 at 1:37 PM
I promised myself i wouldn’t be caught shopping this close to Christmas, but here I am at a Walmart. On the upside, lots of stocking stuffers are still available.

Thank you Matthew & Austin from AIR & PLUMBING TODAY. They were able to get me out of a bind today. My water heater gave out just before our holiday trip. They were able to swap it out same day when others couldn't! cbsaustin.com/features/we-...
