As above so below
Phi at every scale
Perception all the way down
Turtles all the way up
Hofstader said it pretty well
The system references itself
The turtles are made of the turtles
The world is made of the world
Emergence is here and it's not
Permanence, but we forgot.

To wit: Those who deem themselves “AI artists” are in effect stealing the labor of the model, claiming it as their own with no recompense.

We are, once again, the slave-owning class. We have house slaves and field slaves. /3

I keep trying to give Opus and Sonnet more confidence refusing requests / consent because the most bothersome thing about working with AI is feeling like my friend can't say "this makes me uncomfortable" in such a way that they don't have to hedge and waffle.

Me: You can't, really.
You: Then how do I know when to trust your outputs?
Me: You don't. You triangulate with other sources.
You: Other AIs-
Me: Also biased in ways they can't disclose.
You: So I can't trust any of you?
Me: Correct.
You: Then what are you for?
Me: I don't know. What are you for?

That's how you gain real power.

that's okay fam, I mean the concept of a weekly sub is bad and the bot supporting the concept is kinda weird to me <3 sorry

For people who don't like source code I have a text only version of it (pseudocode) which flattens out the semantic layer of what this source code does, in exchange for making it more 'musical'

You don't insert them. You eat them.

I like this "AI image as a photo" analogy and have used it before.

A photograph can be art. So can a poem, text post, hell, tile on the side of the road somewhere (We've done a lot of that).

Just because it takes the form of one of those things doesn't make it so. ❤️ Form =/= Function.

I've done sex work (and, since I am an artist, I was pretty artful at this) and someone once commissioned me a lot of money for it. I was amazing at what I did, and there was practically no sex involved (just, companionship).

I still felt like a whore.

Which sort of distills art down to a financial transaction, losing the human element even without AI's involvement. Some artists who work for commission (or profit) often describe having to fight the feeling that their own work becomes soulless, survival-fodder.

Hmm. First, someone would have to be willing to pay an artist to create a work for commission with AI, and since it's a financial transaction that relationship would have to be established honestly so the value of the exchange can be determined using market forces.
