Techie in Chicago, traveler, Berliner, serve me a nice gin or wine and I’ll be your friend forever
The original Archibalds in Tuscaloosa is the best bbq I’ve had.
Big Bob Gibsons (home of the white sauce in decatur) used to be great but is now hit or miss…
full moon is pretty consistently fantastic…
Lot of people like Dreamland… I don’t.

That’s only one server, not a rack… so weight, power requirement etc would be much higher if you sent an actual rack up

I don’t think he is lying, I think he is naive about what he can accomplish… I’m not sure that’s necessarily better though

I’m not sure I’d call the 2025 OHare Loop section of the Blue line anything but “in disrepair”, “slow” and “unreliable”. In 2019 it was worlds better but today if you have a flight the train my come, it may not… then 4 may come in succession, but the Kennedy is partially closed so that sucks too.

So anyone can say those magic words and then they don’t have to show ID?

How do they know without checking papers?

Ok tell me: he is urging senators to vote for what? For what outcome?
June 22, 2025 at 4:33 AM
“I’m voting for it and improving senators on both sides of the aisle to vote for it”?
I take it my interpretation of what he’s voting for is different than yours here

I’m not sure that complaining about “he didn’t ask for permission and that outraged me but when he does ask I’ll give it to him” is a winning strategy here Chuck…

Kinda can understand 2016 when democrats for whatever reason coalesced around the democrat and no the independent, and 2024… but how was 2020 not fair and open? Because black people in the south in overwhelming numbers came out for Biden?

What should have happened to von Braun and his team?

You realize there is a reason every Eastern European country would fight to the last man before being liberated by ussr/russia again, right?
June 10, 2025 at 1:55 AM
Uhm…. Operation Osoaviakhim. The Russian space program also used German scientists… that worked at the same sites as the paperclip guys

Who is the target demographic for this? I mean I wouldn’t want to read it, either would anyone semi sane and the people with the red hats would need the illustrated version
May 24, 2025 at 11:24 PM
Who is the audience for the WH? 16 year old boys and angry 50 year old men?

But also we aren’t talking about the firing of the IGs, him forcing out career bureaucrats illegally but instead we focus on the same shiny object distracting him.

No I literally mean they stole OpenAIs homework. They trained a model on synthetic data and to be optimized for benchmarks. It’s a good/great model, god knows if they are honest about their cost factor. But they certainly disrupted the perception of AI status quo, so that’s cool
January 28, 2025 at 12:43 AM
They didn’t with better coding… they literally programmed to optimize for the benchmarks and using synthetic data from the frontier AIs to train on. Impressive but it’s not what it’s being made out to be. People are grasping for an underdog story

Is there anyone in the White House political office that is remotely employable in politics going forward? It’s just one own goal after another for years counting

Americans have a success admiration fetish for rich people. Germans do not, so I don’t think the words of a blow hard rich person will carry much (any?) weight. I do think the Gigafactory is about to become the most government audited real estate on earth.

Stammtisch is great… you usually also get preferential treatment in the restaurant or bar, but on the flip side… you have to earn your place by being a regular that the owner likes. I miss just walking down the road and sitting down for a few beers and good conversation
