I would like to know more about animal rights ethical theory beyond Singer and Mill, though. So I'll be here listening. :)

I am frustrated with the "dialogue" (that is a generous word) around animal rights, because very few people wish to be open to understanding another view, or reaching out to help people understand. It seems to be a lot of ridicule and it's sad for the ones who don't have voices.

I would like to know what you mean. Do you mean legally or ethically? Because of course animal rights are contentious even now.

I don't know too much about every legal issues, but have spent years worried about the ethics of consuming animals in meat or other ways.

I've definitely found this to be a challenge in trying to halt mis/disinformation online. You could wave three diplomas at people and they would still gladly accept something untrue because it was presented in a more pleasing manner. It's twisted.

I prefer essays, to be honest. I like to know why this is a person's favorite book.

Jane Eyre is one of my favorites, for instance. I enjoy it because I identified with the narrator for much of my life, sticking to one's ethics. But at 40, I identify in a lot of ways with the wife in the attic. :)

Thank you for the summaries! Appreciate it. :)

But what do you like about them? I am curious.

What would one such book be?

Thank you so much! This is precisely what I want to see from people! I super appreciate it! I didn't really know about urban fantasy as a genre until last DragonCon. It's interesting to see a blur between modern reality and fantasy!

That is really disheartening.

Yes, please. I want to listen to people from so many backgrounds. The more diverse, the better.

This, this, this.

Holy crap. Welcome to White Supremacist University. Yikes.

Thank you for sharing something new to me. It seems similar to what Said describes in Orientalism. Also, Kerouac and his ilk are boring, half-rate writers anyway.

Procrastinating writing. I don't write too much fiction, but even when I am writing for work, etc., I just do a million other things (including chores) before actually sitting down. It's a whole thing.

I am not suggesting that everything is philosophy. That is silly. But confining philosophy to a racist and sexist good ole boys club isn't helpful. And I think that people need to understand that, by adding to the canon, you are not taking away from the canon. It's not pie. You still get your slice.

Or even, what philosophy does Africa have? What about indigenous to the Americas or Australia people? What about anywhere outside of Europe? They don't count because...?
