🪵🔥 The charcoal pile is used to turn wood in to charcoal by your workers.

This can be used by the artisan in the forge to smelt iron ore intro ignots.

Working on environments and caves.

When expanding your colony you can stumble on natural caves. You can integrate them in your colony, or build around them.

Caves will also be a great place for your units to forage or catch fish.

Here is the first draft of a new unit tier. The worker 📦

After some testing it became clear a new unit type for the most basic jobs was necessary. Like hauling supplies, stockpiling rooms and running the market.

Dump in a bunch of units and see how the job system handles it.

I did a small stress test of the job system and it holds up pretty well, but I did found room for some improvement 💡

All units pick a job appropriate for their tier. For example:

➡️ An artisan smelts iron ore to ingots.
➡️ Miners dig out and build new rooms.
➡️ And the farmer... doesn’t have a job yet, so hangs out in the dormitory all day 😅

Entering the end of the year, I got a lot of the systems done for my underground colony builder 🎉

Next year the focus is on content; more units, room types, and a lot of stuff to explore. And finally a Steam page of course.

Currently finetuning the job system. With multiple jobs available, a unit needs to pick the most logical job. The player can influence this by setting the priority of a job type higher or lower.

I’m using a utility system to achieve this, which works great.
