I wish Arafat accepted the 2-state proposal presented to him. Still, there will not be lasting peace in the area until the Palestinian people are free: either thru a new version of 2-state solution, or one, secular democratic state where apartheid laws and practices favoring Jews are eliminated

And the Palestinian people are fed up of 75 years of brutal occupation, dispossession, expulsion, apartheid, land grab, and now genocide according to major human rights organizations and genocide scholars.

I agree with your first statement. As what Israel is defending, I would say it is using Hamas’s terrorist attack as an excuse to expand 75 plus years of occupation, dispossession, land grab and ethnic cleansing.
