A great and heartbreaking piece. The quote from Ms. Rodarmel about not taking things away that were already given is spot on. To me, if Ms. Ayobi was approved for parole, a retroactive change in the law would constitute an ex post facto law, which is Constitutionally prohibited.

I recognize this was only a small part of the piece, but I’m glad you referenced the OVW website being shut down. Since funding was “paused” (!!!) almost two months ago, DV agencies (those with Family Justice Centers, specifically) have been left without information or guidance of any nature. Cruel.
