ForestPaths Project
@forestpaths.eu
Horizon Europe project aiming to create holistic forest-based policy pathways to optimise EU forests’ climate change mitigation potential (No 101056755).
🌲ForestPaths researchers from @tum.de, in collaboration with Berchtesgaden National Park Research, show that spectral unmixing-based forest recovery indicators can effectively predict post-disturbance recovery success.

Policy Lab 3 is a wrap! 🥳

Over three days, we explored SSP1 & SSP3, checked how far the visions can be reached, refined actions and trade-offs and gathered inputs for Policy Lab 4 (2026).

👏 Thanks to all partners and stakeholders involved!

Press release coming soon.

⭐ Day 2 of Policy Lab 3 wrapped up with:
* poster sessions from the modellers
* feedback-based reassessments
* discussion on trade-offs within each vision under the scenarios

❓Stakeholders shared key inputs to guide the next modelling steps.

Catch up via prev posts & stay tuned for the final day!

⭐ Post study tour, the stakeholders are back in their respective visions groups and it's now time to discuss the trade-offs identified per vision under the exploratory scenarios.

❓ The second step? Provide answers to a set of questions of importance to the modellers for taking the next steps.

🚶 🌲 While the modellers are working hard to revise the spider diagrams based on the stakeholders' case-combination for the policy pathways, our participants went on a study tour at Eichwerder Moorwiesen Nature Reserve to have a walk through and see the forest and ecosystem reserve management.

😎 Policy Lab 3, Day 2 - has begun!

Today, our modellers have the task to present perspectives from their individual models to the stakeholders so they can further be informed when building their policy pathways towards the three visions.

😎 Back from group work, we’re now introducing measures to reach the 3 visions under different scenarios.

🌲 This session focuses on building pathways using #exploratorycases from the upcoming #CANOPY tool and linking PL2’s measures to each vision—presented by Aapo Rautiainen (@luke.fi).

💬 As we discuss the three visions, Policy Lab 3 is also considering two exploratory scenarios (SSP1 & SSP3) as diverging future contexts.

Dr Anna Repo (@luke.fi) introduces these #climatechange scenarios and previews CANOPY, our upcoming tool for exploring model results.

Stakeholders are now splitting into three groups to discuss the visions and share their spider diagrams: “Better Forests for All”, “Resilient Forests for People and Planet” and “Diversity ALDO”.

💡 In Policy Lab 2, we created three visions (as seen in image below) for what #forests could look like by 2050.

📂 Policy Lab 3 focuses on how to reach them by building #policypathways using ForestPaths models.

The visions will be online soon—learn more about our models here: forestpaths.eu/models
