When we call someone a monster we erase their choice. We remove accountability.

We say "this is who you are," and we act as if there is no possible outcome other than one in which this person caused/causes great harm.

No room for growth. No way to expect better of them.

The truth is, hero is just the flip side of monster: a word we use to pretend that someone's behavior has exceeded the bounds of humanity, so we can avoid holding ourselves accountable.

Like, I'm talking to cool people. And definitely hoping that I get to meet some of them. But also, it's not the end of the world if someone decides I'm weird and fucks off.

Primarily, catching myself messaging matches and thinking about how great it is to "practice flirting" or "practice talking to people."
